Assemblies
At the first assembly of the year, Wednesday, September 14th, the new
Student Council members were introduced by Mr. Murch. Each one gave a
speech in which he gave promises of reforms for the following school term.
The new Student Council members are: Walter Borthwick, Boys' President; Dianne Patterson, Girls' President; Lois White, Girls' Social Convenor; Gary Cauthers, Boys' Social Convenor; Joye Woolner, Gids' Athletic President; Murray Hodges, Boys' Athletic Representative; and Judy Hawman, Publicity Convenor.
The next assembly of the year was held on Wednesday, October 26. The present Grade 11 students were given their Intermediate Certificates for the completion of Grade 10.
On Thursday, November 10, the Remembrance Service was held. The assembly was called to order by Mr. Peat. After the choir sang the 23rd Psalm, Dianne Patterson, Girls' President of the Student Council, gave sentences of Remembrance. The last post was played, followed by one minute of silence. Sentence of Dedication was given by Walter Borthwick, Boys' President of the Student Council, and the assembly ended with the singing of God Save the Queen.
On Thursday, November 17, three delightful scenes from plays to be presented by the Drama Club stimulated a desire to see the complete play. The cast of "The Grand Duchess," directed by Mr. MacDonald, included such talented actors as Walter Borthwick, Doug Webb, Nancy Keith and Marilyn Cose. "The Storm, " directed by Miss Love, created a mysterious atmosphere, with actors Alex Besse. Pat Mason, Wayne Noble, June Dunlop, and Jane
Gloria Culbert, Michele Radermacher, Gillian Worrad, and Jackie Martin. "The Charleston"
Fisher doing a magnificent job. "The Bleeding Heart of Wee Jon," directed by Mrs. Millsap and Mr. Smith, was a successful comedy, with actors Jack Bent, Catherine Smith, Ron McCarl, Dennis Rainbird, Charles VanderNeut and Roger Piotrow (as the Dragon) and Wayne Sproule (as the narrator) .
The Christmas Assembly was the most humorous of all with Mr. Smith as Santa Claus and Mr. Paton and Mr. Leyshon as his elves. Mr. Smith proceeded to announce all of the presents which would be given to the teachers. He then made his exit in the same way as he had entered on a wagon pushed by Mr. Paton and Mr. Leyshon.
