The Public Speaking Contest, sponsored by the English Department, was again a successful phase of school life. The preliminary contests were held in the school auditorium on March lOth and March 11th. Jennifer McCarl, Roberta Hutchinson, and Don Carscadden were the finalists in the Junior Division; and Lynda Towns, Lynn Plater, and Douglas Patterson were finalists in the Senior Division. On March 12th, the finals were held, and Jennifer McCarl and Douglas Patterson were the ยท.vinners in their respective divisions.
On March 15th the finalists were the guests of the Lions for their Annual Public Speaking con- test, organized this year by Mr. E. Wilson of the Toronto Dominion Bank. The winner of the Girls Division was Lynn Plater, and the winner of the boys division was Don Carscadden.

and the Student Council Public Speaking Trophy to Jennifer McCarl and Douglas Patterson. Each ofthetwenty-eightcontestantswaspresented with a Public Speaking Bar.
Lynn Plater and Don Carscadden each re- ceived individual trophies from the Lions Club.
The Student Council wishes to congratulate all contestants who took part in the contest and to thank the teachers, officials, and judges who made
the Public Speaking Contest a success.
As a council, we are happy to co-operate
with the Department of English through whose efforts the contests are organized and the contest- ants trained) in promoting and encouraging Public Speaking in this school. We also wish to commend the Lions Club for their valuable contribution to the cause of Public Speaking on both the local and provincial levels.
