A small group but a dedicated group! That's the theme of 1982-1983 wrestling at C.C.I. This spirited group of serious athletes, never stopped competing from the season before. Andy Lane and Steve Sammons gave us recognition nationally by both becoming CANADIAN CHAMPIONS. They then went on to Los Angeles, California, to each place second in the WORLD SCHOOLBOY CHAM- PIONSHIPS.
As the High School season opened up C.C.I. began by capturing the Team Title at the G.B.S.S.A. Novice Tour- nament in Alliston. This success was followed by others; TEAM CHAMPIONS in the Huronia Invitational Tournament and the G.L. Roberts lnvitatonal. Steve Sammons went through two tiers of eliminations to win the honour of representing Ontario in the Canada Wmter Games. Then our own tour- nament, wh~ch was a grand success, although un f1ke last year we did not win the team trophy. The team placed second in the league competition for the third year in a row although again we had the best win/loss record. C.C.I. hosted the G.B.S.S.A. Championships in 1983, with real success. Of the nine classes the Fighting Owls entered, we were in the medals in seven - quality not quantity. This performance.allowed five boys to attend OFFSA.
The team is looking forward to another year of Post Secondary Activity. Derek Prezio and Steve Sammons have already won the Ontario Juvenile Championships and along with Andy Lane who placed second, our "little gay trio" should be heard from again this year at the Canadian Championships. Perhaps most important to the season are these special memories. First the re-introduction of the Public School Wrestling Camp for future area wrestlers. Next, Kelly Goheen pinning .his opponent in a match in Almaguin. Finally, the three years of dedication and growth of wrestling skills shown by graduating captain David Dynes. It's been a fabulous season!
