CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING
The new season began for CCI skiers in late September when dryland training commenced. Following many weeks of preparation and several delays due to limited snow conditions, the team finally entered competition on February 3rd at the North York Meet. The team demonstrated that the land training period had provided an edge, by winning both the boys team event, and the combined team event in a field of ten schools. The girls team placed third behind two excellent teams from Don Mills and Orangeville. Top in- dividual performances by CCI skiers were turned in by Kendra Titus (fourth) and Shawn Sinclair (first).
On February 10 fourteen skiers competed at the Midland race in an event involving eleven local schools. In Junior Girls competition CCI placed as follows: Pam Arp ·third, Keely Griffiths · sixth, and Denise Minardi · seventh. In Senior Girls Kendra Titus the lone CCI entrant placed a very respectable sixth. The boys teams also did very well. Jeff Davis led the Junior Boys with a first place finish followed by: Jamie Simpson · eighth, Shawn Darlington · tenth, Greg Nell · twelfth, and Joel Westerhof. thirteenth.
The CCI Senior Boys team earned top honours by placing five skiers in the top nine spots: Shawn Sinclair · third, Bill Ironside · Fourth, Dan Legoaix · seventh, Vaughn Lantz · Eighth, and Gary Lane· ninth.
