The CCI Cross Country Running team, though small in numbers, had a very successful season in 1987. The team competed in five league meets throughout Simcoe County. During these meets, the Senior Girls Team of Pauline Verrette, Yvonne Leliveld, Kim Stockdale, Cathy Morwood, Jen Smith, Margot Minardi and Stephanie Asbeck won the overall team title, going undefeated. Pauline won the overall individual Senior Girls title, with Yvonne in third, while Elaine Lindhorst won the overall individual Midget Girls title. The boys, led by Scott Morgan and Brent Nell, did not have as much success, but they ran hard and improved during the year.
At the GBSSA Championships, hosted by CCI at Horseshoe Valley, the Senior Girls continued their domination with both a first place title as a team and an individual first for Pauline. Along with Elaine, who finish- ed fourth in the Midget Girls race, these girls earned the right to compete at OFSAA. At OFSAA, Pauline finish- ed eighteenth out of over 200 girls to lead the team to a thirteenth place finish overall despite the fact Kim was unable to compete and Cathy and Jen were not up to par.
