The Cross Country Ski Team had a success- ful season, qualfying three individual for OF- SAA competition at Hardwood Hills. They were Karen Skeaff, who placed third at the GBSSA meet in junior girls, Susan Clugston, 7th place at GBSSA in senior girls, and Malcolm Harkness, a senior boy who placed 15th in GBSSA.
The team had a large proportion of first year members who all had fun learning about the sport of cross country ski racing first hand and look forward to competing again next year. These individuals provided us with some truly memorable moments; rap song announce- ments, kid's meal at MacDonalds, and the Detroit Red Wings hat.
Of course the returnees were not to be out- done with Malcolm and Marc taking honours for the most adjectives used in any announce- ment and Genevieve the honours for political poweress in bus ride discussions.
A good time was had by all.
The Cross-Country Ski Team (Lt. Mid.) 'wintered' the season with: Bk. Row: Sue Clugston, David Phillips, Malcolm Harkness, Marc Allard, Sean Chartrand Mid. Row: Coach Milne, Karen Skeaff, Heather McMaster, Mike Dunning, Coach Nell Fr. Row: Jason Lang, Shane Conrad
The drudgery of dryland training, followed by the tedium of running gates every Tuesday certainly paid off for the Alpine Ski Team this year. Only once all season did the team drop below a 1st in either the men's, women's or combined divisions. After a combined victory in the Georgian Bay finals at Blue Mountain, the team joined Georgain Bay Secondary to travel by coach to Ottawa for the all Ontario (OFSAA) finals. Thanks to the bus driver, a new record was set for the bus time travel it takes to get to the nation's capital!
The first day of skiing at Edelweiss proved quite exciting for men's slalom and womens
giant slalom events.
With 2nd p lace tied between Sean Rennie
and another racer, it took strong finishes by Chris Mercer (4), Bo Paclone (18) Mclean Wood (31), and Ollie Blake (33) to hold on to first place. Despite the first place finish by Dol· las Philip in the Women's Giant Slalom, the team backed by Teresa Plater (18), season Le· one (52), Angie Bryans (87), and Amanda Knox (101). just couldn't hold on to the lead.
The second day of racing was incredibly tense for the Men's Giant Slalom as our two top racers, sean Rennie and Bo Paclone both fell. The pressure was on our 'rear gunners' Adam Plater and Mclean Wood to come through with finishes on a very icy course. History re- peated itself with their strong final times of 48.65 for Mclean (19) and 48.81 for Adam Plater (27) guaranteeing the men of a first place finish. Strong skiing by Dallas and the women's team in the slalom event produced a tie for third with Owen Sound giving our gals a final standing offourth.FinallythecombinationoftheMen's first and the women's fourth provided C.C.I. with an over all combined finish in 2nd place. Congrats racers on a smoker of a year!
